Day 12 - Netherlands v Chile

Pre-Match Thoughts
At which the two last games in each group kick off at the same time - look up West Germany v Austria in 1982 if you want to know why - which means picking a game. In Group B, Spain v Australia just decides who gets the wooden spoon, so I'm watching who gets top place.

Both teams have gone with strong line ups, with Dirk Kuyt coming in for the suspended Robin van Perise in the Dutch line up. A draw would see the Orange lads through top on goal difference, so you'd imagine Chile will take a "fuck it" approach and try to win.

Hard to make one of my now-infamous useless predictions for this one. But, let's go 1-1, for the craic.

Drink?
Best stay on the wagon till the weekend, so no tempting me.

First Half
Chile seem to have gone down the road I suggested, dominating most of the play, though not really testing the goalie. Netherlands have been quiet, though Robben came closest out of anyone to score.

Spain are winning 1-0, for what it's worth.

Second Half
The Dutch took their time in this game, letting the opposition bust a gut and wear themselves out. Then, bang, two subs scored a goal a piece, the second after some top work from Robben out wide, hitting on the break. The Dutch take maximum points from the group stage, putting out a marker for everyone else to match.

Result
Netherlands win 2-0. Spain won 3-0, and I missed my sexy friend Juan Mata scoring. Sigh.

Tell Me Why I Don't Like Mondays?
Because they're fucking shit.
